Herd North America – Phoenix Production Scheduling and Master Production Instruction Projects

Project description:

HERD North America Inc. is the largest manufacturer of grille and bumper guards for semi-trucks in North America.

Herd selected Protegra to take on the challenge of replacing their production scheduling system. Protegra designed and developed the Phoenix scheduling system, a custom-fit software solution to leverage Herd’s use of Drum-Buffer-Rope/Theory of Constraints production planning methodology.

Protegra utilized an agile software development approach to produce working software after only five weeks.  Because Herd was so impressed by the quality
and speed of Protegra’s work, they decided to add additional scope to automate their spreadsheet driven Master Production Instructions (MPI) system.   The MPI system software provides manufacturing instructions to operators on the job floor, customized by the customer-selected product options.  MPI and Phoenix are fully integrated into Herd’s MRP systems.

“Herd engaged the services of Protegra in 2014 to write a custom
Production Scheduler for our shop. The Protegra team went the extra distance to
fully understand the business philosophy of the TOC (Theory of Constraints)
system Herd was implementing.
The Management of Herd is extremely pleased with the results
delivered by Protegra.  Protegra consultants
were extremely engaged in this project and were very responsive to changes in
the plan. In fact a major addition to the original project was added as if it
existed from the beginning.  They took
the concept of our required scheduler, produced it to 100% of specification,
while bringing the project in on-time and under budget.”
